This pece of news talks about Vicenç Folgado who was born in Lleida and about his museum.

The Folgado collection, opened in 1999 and has over 100 motorcycles from Europa and US. All the exhibits from the museum are used regularly and often take part in rallies in Catalunya.

The owners of the museum said that everthing can be re-used.

The collections is the manifestation of one man's enduring passion for all mechanical things.

GREAT GRAPES


The Empordà may be Spanin's oldest winemaking region,but it is definitely not the best known.Yet over the past few years, a select number of wines coming from vineyard just inland from the Costa Brava have caught the attetion of international experts-

Hadder-Williams said a major factor in the area's growing reputation is the decision by some vineyards to make their own wine. Now Diego and Nuria Soto of Mas Estela are growing organic grapes and producing a range of read an white wines as well as the area's famous dessert wine, Garnatxa d'Empordà.
Laura Montero, technical director of the vineyard which is near Calonge in Baix Empordà, said that although still relatively inknown abroad the area affered plenty of possibilities. David Rovira, Perelada's export director, said that their wines are sold in 37 countries and that sales are growing by 20 percend annually.He addet that Perelada has boasted its profile through various cultural activities.

However they go about it, it would appear that the wire industry in Empordà is doing a good job at grabbing the attention of wine lovers around the world!

HANDS ON!


Artist David hall takes discarted wood and creates carefully carved pieces. Hall is a sculptor for whom his essential raw materials,hardwoods such as ask beech and welnut have always held a similar facination.

When he was younger and together with his writer wife Elleb,Hall travalled around the world thanks to his job with an international shipping company. One of the distinctive aspects of Hall's work is that he only ues discorder timber.
A recurring theme in his work is the juxtaposition of man and woman, where both physical and dispositional differences are playfully interpreted suggestive curves, bumps and crevices abound, mostly subtly, but sometimes quite blatantly.

Hall has sold his work to customers from the US, Germany,Britain and France.

Tens of thousands of Spanish lorry drivers have begun an indefinite strike over the soaring price of diesel, which has risen by 20% this year.After stopping work at midnight, many disrupted traffic at one of the border crossings between Spain and France.

A number of lorries crossing the picket lines had their windscreens broken, lights ripped out and tyres slashed.Overnight, about 200 lorry drivers parked their vehicles beside roadside toll booths in the Catalonian town of La Jonquera, close to the border with France.The protesters prevented other lorries from passing, and caused delays to car traffic.

Being brought up able to speak two languages fluently has some obvious advantages,at school,traveling. Medical stidies show that speaking two languages can increase and improve a person's brain power.
It's believed that this agility can help prevent mental decline in old age. Whatever the reason that people speak more than one language due to the luck of their parents or a voluntary desire to improve their chances with potential parteners, it's becoming invreasingle common across Europe to find bilinguists. A 2005 report produces by the European Union discoverd that over helf the citizens of the 25 member states of the time could speak a language other than their native tongue well enough to be able to hold a conversation;this was a rise of three percent from the previous study,done in 2001.

Exactly 100 yers ago, excavation work began the Costa Brava at the Roman site of Empuries. The first Setllement in the area near the present day town of l'Escala was Pacte Polis,founted by Greek Colonists in 575 BCE an biult on an island at the entrance to the River Fluvia.
For over 300 years the Greeks traded ceramics jewellery and spices with the indignous Iberian people,the Indiketes.
In 195 BCE the Romans arrived setteng up their garrison at Empuries just inland from the Greek settlement. A visit to the site today is rewarding experience.There's plenty to see at Empuries,including the ruins of Several basilicas,temples and a gladiatorial amphitheatre and a museum with some fine examples of Roman art. One of our missions to find the remains of an indoor theatre,which we are convinced is buried somewhere.There is so much yet to discover here at Empuries,it could take hundreds more years.

Although there is a small number of charity shops here, such as the Humana Chain and Boto d'Or in Roses, there is nothing like the range found in some other countries.There are various respositeries for books,toys and other commern cast-offes of the post-christmes clean up.
Many churches accept donations of everuthing from music to baking pans ,which they then redistaibute as they see fit.

The international organisation Emaús,started in France over 50 years ago,helps people with problems related to social integration.

There are several branches of Emaus in Spain,which accept donations of books,clothes,furniture and other household goods.
People are invited to bring the old things and browse arounde for "new" items.But should you go strictly to give,rather than swap,that's fine too.

Dalí spent as much time promoting himself as he did making art. His desire for fame was attended by an equally fierce desire for wealth.
He had "love of cash" and to make it he took on an enormous number of commissions.Lending his hand to fashion,furniture , window displays , perfume bottles,Disney Cartoons and advertisments made him among tho most succesful and visible artist of the 20th centry.

This news tells us about 3 festivals from Costa Brava and beyond,3 festival in the winter Season.
The first festival is "La Fira de l'Ave",medieval Espinelves plays host to fine and critical winter festival.For seven days , the village becomes a bustling fir market,accompanied by exhibition street theatre and live music.
The second festival is "Festa de Sabta Lúcia",six festival in honour of Lucy,the patron saint of blindness.The biggest is in Barcelona.
And finely "La Fira Avícola Roca Prat", this is a gastronomical festival that started on' 3th of December in El Prat de Llobregat. The locals prepare a particulary kind of chicken "pollastre de Pato Blavo".Also there are parties with traditional Catalan music and dances.
